About

Kenneth John Stewart MEng (Hons) MITI

I’m Ken Stewart, and I have the expertise to create professional, accurate English translations of your German intellectual property and technical texts.

I’m a German to English patent translator specialising in the translation and revision of engineering-related patents, patent litigation, patent abstracts, patent examination reports and technical documents.

As a qualified engineer with an undergraduate masters degree in Automotive Engineering with German, I have the solid foundation of technical knowledge that allows me to go beyond the language and fully grasp the technical detail of your text. I am therefore best placed to prepare English translations that correctly and accurately convey the original German meaning.

My technical specialisms lie primarily in the fields of automotive engineering and mechanical engineering. My career as a patent translator has also given me extensive experience in translating material from the wider e-mobility field and from a range of further sectors including manufacturing and automotive electronics.

A native English speaker from Edinburgh, I have held a lifelong affinity for the German language – and I enjoy being able to apply that in my daily work!

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Technological development never stops. You need a translator who is up to date with current developments and innovations both in the engineering sectors in which you operate and in the translation industry. As a Qualified Member of the UK’s Institute of Translation and Interpreting, I am committed to keeping my knowledge and skills up to date through continuing professional development.

Computer-Aided Translation (CAT) Tools

I have many years of experience in the use of CAT tools, and am an experienced and regular user of Trados Studio. I am well-accustomed to the post-editing of machine translation when required.

My Experience

A full undergraduate masters engineering degree with a focus on automotive technology, including modules on German language and on German-language teaching of engineering principles by a native German speaking engineer.

A sandwich year during my university degree, spent working in that manufacturer’s research and development division. Research into steering system simulation in the field of active steering systems.

Final year project for my University of Bath degree, written in German and summarised in English. Research into improving the mathematical modelling of vehicle dynamics for vehicle control systems.
